Hong Kong designer wins International REMIX competition in Milan
Hong Kong designer, Chiu Yu Hang, was awarded the Gold prize last night at REMIX, the International Fur Design Competition at La Visionnaire, in Milan. Competition judges have included US Fashion Designer Rubin Singer, the FT’s Fashion Editor and Comedienne, Joan Rivers, as well as senior representatives from the trade and fur trade press. They selected Chiu Yu Hang’s architectural mink two tone design, from a field of 40 entries.
Chiu Yu Hang is currently in his second year studying Fashion and Design at the well respected Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education. His design talent was recently recognised at the “I’m a Banner Bag” Design Competition, held annually in Hong Kong, where he won the prize category for the most creative entry.
The REMIX Silver prize went to Siidaa Aberra from Finland, who said that the inspiration for his knitted mink pullover came from Lego brick colours based on life experiences growing up.
The Bronze prize was awarded to Germany’s Guliya Baykieva, a student at the prestigious AMD Akademie Mode und Design in Dusseldorf.
All the young designers taking part in the REMIX design competition are winners of their own national level design competitions, resulting in an outstanding level of innovative design.
The REMIX competition was introduced in 2003 by the International Fur Trade Federation (IFTF), in collaboration with MIFUR, the Milan based International Fur and Leather Exhibition. Now in its sixth year, more than 300 students from 22 countries have taken part in this annual event since its inception. REMIX aims to encourage, inspire and support young designers as they develop and explore their relationship with fur, as well as to give them an opportunity to showcase their innovative designs to an international audience.
